Proper unshowy, very satisfying, Italian food and fair enough prices make this a restaurant for the more dedicated diner, one who wants that classic local restaurant reassurance and vibe on a semi-regular basis.

And that’s just the kind of restaurant Soho still needs and why I will be back

The menu includes the usual Italian staples of pizza, pasta and a starter of panfried tiger prawns was served piping hot and cooked to juicy perfection, while the gnocchi main – complete with wild mushrooms, smoked mozzarella and about five litres of truffle oil – proved a tasty way to sabotage one’s waistline.

What I like best about 40 Dean Street is that everything just falls into place... Like a favourite sweater or pair of boots, it’s somewhere I’ll keep coming back to. I do hope people keep discovering this charming, classic Italian restaurant in Soho. But not too many. I don’t want to find that I can’t get a table.

The pasta was perfectly cooked, the buttery, truffle scented sauce was decadent and the ricotta filling in the pasta was generous and creamy. If you come here, order this. I really enjoyed 40 Dean Street in Soho and when comes to value for money, especially in this part of London – you’d be hard pushed to find this kind of quality in the area and at this price.

  • Had a delicious meal with my husband and my daughter celebrating her birthday. We chose seafood pasta options, which were all outstanding. My lobster ravioli in a bisque sauce was exquisite. The pistachio tiramisu was nutty, light sponge with a homemade touch. Thanks for making Ife's birthday a special treat. She loves Italian food and you didn't disappoint us! We will be back soon!

Sorry I forgot to take photos before I started eating, but hopefully you still get the idea. It was lush! Vegetarian options: I started with olives and a cocktail. Then had the aubergine parmigiana, the penne arrabbiata and a tomato and onions side salad. It was lovely.

There is an impressive number of pasta and risotto choices too, such as lobster ravioli in a shellfish bisque, and risotto with porcini mushrooms, roasted butternut squash, asparagus and walnuts.

This Soho mainstay offers purse-friendly food served by the most helpful team in the capital.

  • Delicious food and wine, we felt a little rushed by the server and admittedly we were a large loud group so possibly due to the small restaurant the sound can travel and otherwise was a lot of small tables close together but overall we really enjoyed ourselves and loved the decor and vibe

  • Dora was extremely good, we were impressed with the service and the food was excellent. She even told us about a sister restaurant at 64 which we will try .

  • I visited this place twice during my stay in London, and the food is so good. For mains, I ordered the ravioli, mashed potatoes, and bruschetta as a starter. Highly recommend this spot. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very cozy.

  • Had a fabulous long lunch at this gem of a restaurant yesterday. Service was friendly & efficient and the food could not be faulted - beef carpaccio followed by mushroom risotto & a few too many bottles of rosè! Really sensibly priced - especially considering the location. Would def recommend & we’ll be going back! X

  • Had an early dinner there by myself before going to The Lyric theatre. Staff were friendly and lovely. Food was delicious. I ate all my favourite things. Sorry I forgot to take photos before I started eating, but hopefully you still get the idea. It was lush! Vegetarian options: I started with olives and a cocktail. Then had the aubergine parmigiana, the penne arrabbiata and a tomato and onions side salad. It was lovely.
